Merdø

Some of the most charming beaches in Arendal are in Merdø, an island that is easily reachable from the city centre. This family-friendly attraction is studded with pebbled shores and idyllic coastal sceneries. It comprises of two beaches, both of which are worth visiting when you are in Arendal, especially with children.
The beach areas on Merdø have narrow paths where visitors can get a good view of the beautiful water landscapes. From the water's edge you can also see the highest point of the island. The area is marked with a compass that was engraved in a stone on the ground in 1654. On the beaches you will find a café nearby serving snacks and drinks. The coastline is full of beautiful wooden houses that have stood for a long time. In summer you can reach this part of the island by ferry or private boat. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful beaches are perfect for summer activities such as swimming, surfing and building sand castles.
