The island gets its name from the Norse word Þruma, which means "(the island with) the brake". It is full of beautiful beaches you can visit if you take the trip over.
Hove is also popular with tourists who want to visit one of the many beaches. Another interesting area on the island is Tromøya church, a medieval church built in 1150. If you visit Arendal with a desire to go on a tent trip, Hove camping is perfect.
