Store eller Lille Torungen fyr

Want to experience coastal culture at the far end of the ocean gap at the entrance to Arendal? Then you are welcome to Store or Lille Torungen lighthouses. At Store Torungen, two of the buildings are operated as a tourist cabin with a total of approx. 25 beds. The boathouse at Store and the tower at Lille Torungen are also rented out as "party rooms" for larger and smaller groups. In few places can you experience a similar panoramic view of the archipelago in historical surroundings as at Torungene lighthouse!
Arendal is from the sailing ship era known as the city with "the second lighthouse". Store and Lille Torungen were established as twin lighthouses on their respective islets in the entrance to the city in 1844. Lille Torungen was closed down in 1914, while Store Torungen was upgraded to a modern lighthouse with a new tower the same year. Store Torungen was first manned 80 years later in 2004. The old brick tower from 1844 on Lille Torungen has been preserved. The same applies to the cast iron tower from 1914, and several of the buildings on Store Torungen. The Norwegian Coastal Administration rents out both lighthouses to the Torungen lighthouse Foundation, which operates these in collaboration with the Aust-Agder Tourist Association. Welcome to "the second guy"!
