After months of anticipation, the glass elevator was finally inaugurated on 6th August 2021 in Arendal. Use the lift to go to the top and soak in the panoramic views of Arendal and the nearby islands, including Hisøy, Tromøy and Galtesund.
When the Arendal municipality had planned a new city centre in Fløyheia at Arendal, there was a need to create access from the existing city square to the new one. That’s when the authorities proposed building a glass elevator and walkway to facilitate this.
The elevator has two lift chairs that 42 people can access at one time. The space can also be used to accommodate wheelchairs and bicycles. The route includes 50 metres inside the city tunnel, a lift of 40 metres in the mountains, and a 20-metre high glass shaft. After enjoying the views from the top, you can take the walkway to the planned square area, which ends in front of the governor’s building.
While the project has been financed by Arendal municipality, Fylkeskommunen and Fløyveien 14 AS, the elevator will be operated by Arendal Eiendom KF. You can drop by anytime from 6 AM to 10 PM to access the elevator.
